About Fractals
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia;
A fractal is “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,” a property called self-similarity. Roots of mathematically rigorous treatment of fractals can be traced back to functions studied by Karl Weierstrass, Georg Cantor and Felix Hausdorff in studying functions that were continuous but not differentiable; however, the term fractal was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning “broken” or “fractured.” A mathematical fractal is based on an equation that undergoes iteration, a form of feedback based on recursion
About the Artist
In early 2009, AvalonRaven stumbled on the most intriguing artwork she’d seen in quite some time. After searching out and browsing through some amazing fractal art galleries, she knew this was something she had to try for herself.
With over 10yrs experience in digital art and graphic design, it took little time to become completely entranced in this new digital art form.
“I spent countless hours reading everything I could find about fractals, and completely fell in love with these amazing designs. While for some, fractals are an interesting way to create a visual from the application of math and science, I prefer to celebrate the infinitely intricate nature of the design.”
When AvalonRaven is not creating fractal images, she is the Head Designer and CEO of AvalonRaven Designs, a website and graphic design firm in Tacoma Washington.
